EMERGENCY HALTER

LEADS

Leather leads should be used only for leading animals and not for tying.

The best leads are made of three-quarter inch cotton, approximately ten feet long, and have a bull snap with the rope woven back into the rope at the snap. Cotton is strong and is less likely to leave a rope burn if pulled suddenly from your hands.

Nylon and web lead ropes will burn your hands if pulled suddenly and are more difficult to keep tied or to untie in case of an emergency. A lead with a chain end should never be used for tying an animal.

QUICK RELEASE HITCH

This knot will allow you to free your equine quickly in the case of an emergency but will not allow the animal to pull free.
